WhyWillow? The Willow is resilient and strong. The Willow is also soft and pliable, flexible and bendable. It's bark and branches are used in weaving of fabric and furniture. A Willow weathers storms well, bending through heavy winds and rain, and under the weight of ice and snow. A willow can be cut back nearly to the ground, and grow again, recovering quickly. It's roots spread wide at the surface, as well as penetrating deeply into the earth, acquiring balance. The tree grows tall, and the branches of the Willow sweep widely and down to the earth, creating a veil of protection. The Willow is a tree fond of watery places. The Willow is a sign of intuition, Emotion, the unconscious. The Willow is associated with Birth, Fertility, Healing and Flexibility, and the balance of Intuition and Knowledge. Pregnant women would lay cloths beneath the tree in order to catch the leaves, which were believed to assure an easy birthing process. - Spiritual Goal: To learn that there must be periods of rest rather than continual activity. Symbolism is not fixed, there are no correct versions of anything, and the willow particularly stimulates our ability to follow our intuitions and find out own meanings
